- The ASA sponsors a number of awards:
- The Bok Prize for the best third or fourth year student essay or project.
- The Page Medal for excellence in amateur astronomy.
- The Ellery Lectureship for outstanding contributions in astronomy or related fields.
- The David Allen Prize for a published article which portrays an astronomical theme in an exciting and educative way.
- The Charlene Heisler Prize for an astronomical essay competition by an Australian undergraduate.
- Australian Research Council National Competitive Grants - research grants and awards under two main elements: Discovery and Linkage.
- Ian Potter Foundation - one of Australia's largest private philanthropic foundations with interests in the sciences.
- Limited funds to support individuals or certain astronomical projects may also be obtained from the Donovan Astronomical Trust. The trust provides financial assistance for projects which promote education in astronomy in Australasia. A Society member acts as Honorary Secretary for the Trust.
- Queens Trust for Australians - committed to developing innovative initiatives that support and empower the lives of young Australians aged 12 to 25.
- Sigma XI - Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR)- grants program supporting astronomy or vision related research preferentially.
- American Association of University Women Educational Foundation - distinguished tradition of advancing educational and career opportunities for all women.
- Edward Corbould Research Fund - to encourage and assist astronomical research, open to both amateurs and professionals.
- Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship - granted annually to women pursuing graduate degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering.
- British Chevening Scholarship - intended for outstanding graduates with the potential to improve and maintain Australian-British understanding.
- Australian Bicentennial Scholarships/Fellowships - open to students registered at a British tertiary institution or eligible for such registration at an Australian tertiary institution.
- FFI Fellowships - encouraging and promoting the further education of graduate women.
